Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media in addition to a public speaking Canadian. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency which offers videos and blog posts that analyze the representation of women in pop culture. Feminist Frequency is a website dedicated to education, which examines the role of women in popular culture, is directed by Sarkeesian. Destroying stereotypes about women are her main focus. However, Sarkeesian also wants to highlight problems like harassment and targeted attacks on women in the online world. The holder of a master's degree in the field of political and social thinking at York University Sarkeesian is also popular as a public speaking engagement and has given keynote speeches at TEDxWomen's Women XOXO Festival and also the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. She was a fan of the gender issue and feminist movements since an early age. As of 2009, as she was still enrolled at the University of Toronto, Sarkeesian created the site Feminist Frequency. Someone who was ambitious had a plan to make a web series that would examine the gender roles in gaming. In the end, she came across herself in the middle of a cyber-bullying campaign. But the harassment did not dissuade her. This only helped her journalistic skills as a feminist. She has won numerous awards in recognition of her many prominent contributions to the field of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winning media critic and the director of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization which studies the portrayals of women in pop-culture narratives.
